Paul Ryan on Meet the Press: ‘Sequester is going to happen’
Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) told David Gregory Sunday morning on NBC’s Meet the Press that automatic spending cuts are going to happen because of “Democratic opposition to GOP alternatives,” Washington Post blogger Chris Cillizza wrote in an article Sunday morning.
“I think the sequester is going to happen,” Ryan told Gregory.
It was Ryan’s first live interview since the election in November.
Cillizza wrote: “The sequester — which is the roughly $1.2 trillion worth of automatic spending cuts set to soon hit the Pentagon and other government agencies if lawmakers don’t act — is likely to happen, Ryan said, because of opposition from Democrats to Republican proposals for replacement cuts.”
CNN’s Greg Clary wrote Sunday about Ryan’s comments on Meet the Press regarding President Obama and the economy.
“I don’t think that the president actually thinks we’re having a fiscal crisis,” Ryan said.
